Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) is launched to enable customers to make simple, easy and quick payment transactions using Unified Payments Interface (UPI). One can easily make bank-to-bank payments instantly and also collect money using just mobile number or payment address.
Customers can now make small value transactions easily to pay their usual grocery bills and other such small value payments. Those who do not have access to internet or does not possess a smartphone could also pay digitally using *99# service, thus it covers maximum strata of the society.
Below mentioned are some of the key features explained in detail pertaining to BHIM app.
One of the innovative payment service launched by NPCI includes *99# service, which works on Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) channel. This service was launched envisioning the potential of Mobile Banking and the need for immediate low value remittances which will help in financial deepening and inclusion of under-banked society in the mainstream banking services. *99# service was dedicated to the nation by the Honorable Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi on August 28, 2014 as part of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY).
*99# service has been launched to take the banking services to every common man across the country. Banking customers can avail this service by dialing *99#, a common number across all Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) on their mobile phone and transact through an interactive menu displayed on the mobile screen.
USSD 2.0 is launched by integrating *99# service with UPI for feature phone holders. India houses about 900 million active mobile phone users, out of which majority are feature phones. In this case, simply dialing *99# from mobile phone makes banking services accessible to all bank account holders. The service is available across all telecom service providers and is also available in multiple languages.
